Search terms, site stats, and PowerBars

I've lost track of how much money I've spent at nearlyfreespeech.net since I first set up this site here, but I've been extraordinarily happy with the service and the value. However much it has been, it's probably less than I've spent on PowerBars and chewing gum since I arrived in Afghanistan.

Being on time: still important

What is wrong with you people? If you don't know why being on time is important by now, you're not going to figure it out reading Sigspace.

Images and words

The image module I'm using to post pictures isn't quite what I hoped for. I will keep checking and see what else might work better.

It's not super intuitive, but you can click on a link at the bottom of the image node to see the original, full-size photos, which are at 1600x1200 resolution. It does odd things to the layout, but at least you can see the photo better and save it if you're so inclined.

New theme goodness

About the new look, derived from the very good adc theme, but twisted to my own evil ends.

Site upgrade--flee in terror!

I'm well behind current for the Drupal software which runs this site, so I'm doing upgrades. Beware wonkiness. I'll update when it's safe to browse again.

Over this glacial connection from Afghanistan, this will be pretty painful even if things go well.

UPDATE (several hours later):

In the words of the sea captain from the Simpsons, "ARRRR, I don't know what I'm doing."

Roy's Quote

One year

One year ago tomorrow, I decided that I'd had enough with trying to run a web site from my DSL line and dusty Dell P3 server. I set up hosting with NearlyFreeSpeech.net and configured Sobrania.net (now sobrania.sigspace.net) using Drupal v4.5 with an all-new database.

When I split the site and created SigSpace, I cloned that database and then nuked the stuff I didn't need. In that sense, at least, this is the 1-year anniversary of both sites.

In honor of the occasion, I updated the about page and my own user page. Now I'm going to purge some old user accounts.

Goofing off a bit

In which Sig plays on the Intarweb. What, you expected something profound to happen the day after he gets access?
