During Operation Mountain Thrust, we spent 18 days on an unpleasant (if pretty) ridgeline surrounded by people who would have preferred us dead.

Our insertion was by CH-47 Chinook; our resupply was by CH-47 Chinook. And our eventual exfiltration was by (guess) CH-47 Chinook.

In this picture, a Chinook has just dropped a load of supplies. The pilot immediately dove forward and went down the hill at a steep angle--I thought he'd lost control and was about to hit the hill side.

Just goes to show that even cargo helo pilots like adrenaline.
